Oud perfume and Oud oil both derive from agarwood, a resinous heartwood that forms in Aquilaria trees when they become infected with a specific type of mold. However, they are different in terms of their production, concentration, and usage:

  1. Production: Oud perfume, also known as Oud attar or Oudh, is a fragrance created by distilling Oud oil with alcohol and water. The result is a fragrant perfume with Oud as its base note. Oud oil, on the other hand, is the pure, concentrated oil extracted directly from agarwood through steam distillation or other methods.

  2. Concentration: Oud perfume typically contains a lower concentration of Oud oil compared to pure Oud oil. Perfumes are usually diluted with alcohol and water, while Oud oil is undiluted and highly concentrated.

  3. Usage: Oud perfume is ready to use and can be applied directly to the skin like any other perfume. Oud oil, due to its high concentration, is often used sparingly and may be diluted with a carrier oil before being applied to the skin. It can also be used in the production of perfumes or blended with other essential oils.

  4. Cost: Oud oil is generally more expensive than Oud perfume due to its purity and concentration. Oud perfume, being diluted and more accessible, is usually less expensive.

Both Oud perfume and Oud oil are prized for their rich, woody, and complex fragrance, often described as deep, musky, and slightly sweet. They are highly valued in perfumery and traditional medicine.
